Collect
1 fresh in a container,1 piece per cassette frozen
Volume Required
(3), 1cm square piece of muscle tissue
Minimum Required
(1), 1cm square.
Transport
Send fresh muscle, frozen muscle and skin (if applicable) immediately to Pathology.

Processing
At time of collection, place 1 piece of fresh muscle in a sterile container, on saline moist gauze. Place 1 piece of muscle in each cassette and freeze in Liquid Nitrogen. If skin is collected place in vial of RPMI.
Unacceptable conditions
Specimen not properly identified, requisition form missing required data.

Remarks
Notify Pathology at 4-1728 or 4-1729 prior to biopsy. Send O.R. runner to pick up Dewar of Liquid Nitrogen, tube of RPMI (for skin biopsy) and white cassettes. Then all biopsy specimens are to be brought immediately to pathology during working hours. THIS SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE AFTER HOURS, WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS. Must be submitted on a fully completed Surgical Pathology Request Form. Include all required information.
