Buccal Brush Collection Instructions: Collect tissue by rolling the Buccal Brush firmly on the inside of the cheek, approximately 20 times on each side, making certain to move the brush over the entire cheek. 4 brushes should be collected per individual. Allow brushes to air dry for 10-15 minutes at room temperature. Return the dry brushes to their plastic sleeves and send to the laboratory.
Samples older than 72 hours. Mislabeled samples: Samples must be labeled with at least two different identifiers, date & time of collection, and collector's signature.

This test is for confirmatory typing of stem cell transplant patients and donors that have already been typed at high resolution with a different sample. Confirmatory HLA Typing includes HLA-A, B, and DRB1 loci. If patient has received multiple transfusion(s) within two weeks prior to collection, buccal cells are the recommended specimen type.
