The Division of Anatomic Pathology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is composed of a highly experienced, board certified staff of pathologists specializing in all aspects of pediatric pathology. The division provides diagnostic services for all tissue specimens removed by surgeons and clinicians at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and conducts necropsy examination of fetuses, infants and children. In addition, we support a large domestic and foreign consultation service that provides diagnoses and second opinions on a broad variety of specimens sent to our pathologists who collectively cover all areas of pediatric pathology. Particular expertise exists in neoplastic, gastrointestinal, liver, kidney, heart, hematologic, bone and soft tissue, genitourinary, fetal and transplant pathology.

The pathologists are all engaged in research activities revolving around their clinical interests. The members of the faculty serve as both investigators as well as working collaboratively with other faculty at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania and other academic institutions. Pediatric fellows and rotating residents from multiple departments are encouraged to participate in the ongoing research within the department.
The Department supports up to four pediatric pathology fellows each year. Training is obtained in all aspects of pediatric pathology. Residents and fellows training in pathology as well as in other specialties such as gastroenterology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and at the University of Pennsylvania and from a broad range of other programs can rotate through the department for instruction in fetal and pediatric pathology.
