Consultation Services
The Division of Neuropathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, provides a full range of consultation services for outside cases including brain biopsies (both tumors and non-neoplastic diseases), muscle biopsies and autopsy brain examination.
Autopsy Brain Examination
A full range of consultation services are available for examination of brains obtained at the time of autopsy. Clinical inquirers should be addressed to Dr. Brian Harding, Director of Medical Neuropathology, at (267) 426-0348.

Brain Biopsy
A full range of consultation services are available for brain biopsy specimens including brain tumors, seizure related resections, vascular malformations, infections, and developmental or metabolic disorders. Muscle Biopsy
A full range of consultation services is available for muscle biopsies. Clinical inquirers should be addressed to Dr. Mariarita Santi, Director of Muscle Service at (267) 426-0348.

Nerve Biopsy
The Division of Neuropathology sends out nerve biopsies to the Mayo Clinic. Diagnostic reports generated by the Mayo Clinic will be reported to referring physicians by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The instructions in this document are based on the Mayo Clinic Nerve Biopsy Protocol.
