Overview of the Division of Neurology
The Division of Neurology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a world leader in pediatric neurologic disorders. Our neurologists have advanced training and experience in pediatric stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, sleep disorders, developmental delay, neurogenetic disorders, multiple sclerosis, neonatal neurology, among other neurological disorders in children.
As one of the largest and most comprehensive programs in the nation, the Division of Neurology provides a complete range of services to patients and families. Each year we have more than 17,000 outpatient visits in seven locations in Philadelphia and the surrounding region.
Specialized programs
The Division offers six specialized programs:
- A special Neuromuscular Program, recognized by the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America. The Clinic offers comprehensive evaluation of all neuromuscular disease and provides follow-through care.
- The Pediatric Regional Epilepsy Program, which provides comprehensive evaluations for children with seizures. Treatment options include different medications, ketogenic diet, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) or epilepsy surgery.
- The Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, which specializes in the care of children with multiple sclerosis and demyelinating disease (any condition that results in damage to the protective covering that surrounds nerves in the brain and spinal cord).
- The Pediatric Stroke Program, which specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pediatric stroke. Among the first of its kind in the nation, the Pediatric Stroke Program consists of a multidisciplinary team that addresses the full spectrum of needs from acute inpatient treatment to ongoing outpatient services and community reintegration.
- The Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) Program provides expert care, from initial testing and diagnosis through long-term management of FA.
- The Neurogenetics Clinic provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis, genetic counseling and treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders.
