The Pediatric Thyroid Center at CHOP is one of the few centers in the nation dedicated to the unique medical needs of children and adolescents with thyroid disease. The center has a team of endocrinologists, pediatric surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, advanced practice nurses and other specialists. Together, we offer an unparalleled level of expertise as well as the resources necessary to provide optimal care that is individualized for each child with thyroid disease.
Each year, the Pediatric Thyroid Center:
- Evaluates 120 new patients with a thyroid nodule
- Performs approximately 60 thyroid surgeries
- Treats approximately 70 patients with thyroid cancer
The center cares for local, regional, national and international patients. Our staff works closely with families and patients to make sure they fully understand the diagnosis and treatment, and to answer any questions they have. A social worker is involved in caring for families, and child life specialists provide expertise and support in the psychological aspects of coping with thyroid disease and its treatment.
