Pediatric Radiology Fellowship Program

Overview and Mission:

The Department of Pediatric Radiology of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is accredited for 10 positions in an ACGME-approved Pediatric Radiology Fellowship Training Program. The program is designed as a one or two year training experience. Our goal is to develop well-trained pediatric radiologists capable of delivering excellent clinical radiology care, research and teaching with confidence, and a desire to serve and improve the discipline.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a 430 bed pediatric hospital, with a large outpatient facility, associated with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The patient population we serve is large and diverse, extending from routine emergency cases seen in our active emergency room to complicated tertiary care cases involving oncology, cardiology, urology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, neonatology, endocrinology, neurology and surgical subspecialties of orthopedics, neurosurgery, fetal surgery, cardiothoracic and otolaryngology (ENT).

The Department:

Our Diagnostic Radiology Department performs over 230,000 cases a year including all imaging modalities. At present, there are 29 full-time radiologists, emeritus professor, with full-time subspecialty staff in general pediatric radiology (with subspecialty interests in musculoskeletal, thoracic, and abdominal and cardiovascular imaging), neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. We also have an active research team with 7 Ph.D. scientists, three post doc fellows and 9 research assistants in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy, PET, magnetoencephalography (MEG) and scintigraphy.

All of our imaging modalities are reviewed on PACS (iSite with Vendor Neutral Archive). We also have an imaging center at King of Prussia, which includes plain films, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound. Additional radiography services are provided at our satellites (Bucks County, Exton, Voorhees, and Atlantic County).

The Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging Center at Virtua Voorhees opened on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. The Imaging Center will introduce CHOP’s high standard of care to the pediatric referring community in South Jersey. CHOP Radiologists will be on site to interpret pediatric radiologic examinations, with CHOP Sedationist Physicians and nurses providing sedation services. Additionally, a child life specialist will be on hand to assist patients with anxieties.
