Pediatric Sleep Fellowship Program

About the program

The Pediatric Sleep Fellowship Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), offered in conjunction with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, is a pediatric/adult program that covers the entire age spectrum in conjunction with ACGME board requirements.

Training is provided in both pediatric and adult sleep disorders, with separate pediatric and adult tracks offered with an emphasis on the respective age group. Applicants in the pediatric track will receive the majority of their training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Teaching is provided by an interdisciplinary faculty, including pediatric pulmonology, neurology, otorhinolaryngology and psychology specialists.

An applicant to the pediatric track should have completed training in an accredited pediatrics residency program prior to beginning sleep training, such that the applicant could sit for the American Board of Pediatrics certifying exam.

The goal of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is to train future leaders in academic sleep medicine. For physicians who are interested in becoming independent investigators, there is opportunity to apply for funding through a T32 training grant to support two to three years of post-doctoral research (basic or clinical) following a year of comprehensive clinical training.

The history, expertise and compassion that make the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia unique are also what makes it the best place for medical trainees. Our graduates have gone on to become leaders in the field of Sleep Medicine.

Other requirements

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community. In keeping with this, CHOP has mandated all workforce members (including trainees) on site at any CHOP location for any portion of their time be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment.

This mandate also applies to workforce members or trainees performing work for CHOP at non-CHOP locations. Additionally, all workforce members based in or regularly scheduled to work at any New Jersey location are mandated to be both vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19, with booster timing consistent with applicable guidelines. The CHOP COVID-19 vaccine mandate is in alignment with applicable local, state and federal mandates. CHOP also requires all workforce members and trainees who work in patient care buildings or who provide patient care to receive an annual influenza vaccine. Employees may request exemption consideration for CHOP vaccine requirements for valid religious and medical reasons. Please note start dates may be delayed until candidates are fully immunized or valid exemption requests are reviewed. In addition, candidates other than those in positions with regularly scheduled hours in New Jersey, must attest to not using tobacco products.
