Children are special people! Although they might have us believe otherwise, children are NOT simply “small adults.” Children's bodies, as well as their mental and physical development, are different than those of adults. As an EMS professional, it is important to be aware of these differences as they can affect your assessment and treatment of young patients. In addition, you should be aware of the particular requirements for children with special health care needs, such as children with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
At the scene of an emergency, EMS professionals provide initial care that may significantly impact the chances of a child's recovery or survival. EMS professionals require ongoing education to ensure they are familiar with the most appropriate methods of caring for pediatric patients. Having access to educational resources and pediatric experts can prepare you to provide the best care for young patients.
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is dedicated to the mission of EMSC and the education of our pre-hospital professionals regarding the care of ill and/or injured children. This website is designed to be your guide to educational resources, programs, seminars and workshops that will be offered through our institution as an EMS education sponsor.
