The Trauma Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

As the first accredited pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Pennsylvania, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a premier site for the evaluation, treatment, and expert care of children who have experienced severe and life-threatening injuries.

The Trauma Center's success depends on its ability to execute a multidisciplinary team approach to the care of injured children. Patients are admitted to the Trauma Center directly from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Emergency Department, or through a referral from another hospital. Our helipad enables the rapid transfer of patients requiring immediate interventions while our ground transport team is mobilized as appropriate.

The multidisciplinary team comprises surgeons, physicians, nurses, social workers and rehabilitation therapists. In addition, because traumatically injured children frequently experience multiple injuries or serious single system injuries in need of very specialized care, the Trauma Center works with numerous physician services and consults with associate trauma directors representing eight disciplines:

The Trauma Center is also active in preventing children and adolescents from ever becoming seriously injured through our commitment to injury prevention through the Kohl's Injury Prevention Program and our involvement in the SAFE KIDS Coalition of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
