The vaccine schedule has changed over the years as new vaccines have been developed, existing vaccines have been improved, and revised recommendations have been made. In fact, every year since 1995 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has endorsed an annual childhood immunization schedule. Prior to 1995, these groups updated the immunization schedule every few years as needed.
In this section, we provide a current vaccine timetable, outline the history of vaccines, answer questions about vaccine changes, provide a vaccine availability timeline and offer some ideas about how to lessen the pain of vaccines.
