Many of us remember those sleepless nights with a new baby. All babies demand a lot of time and energy! To help support new mothers and young infants living in homeless shelters, the Homeless Health Initiative (HHI) works with Philadelphia’s Office of Supportive Housing to provide healthcare during the vulnerable postpartum and newborn period.
CHOP nurses screen new mothers for postpartum depression and monitor the weight and growth of infants. These periodic well baby visits allow nurses to monitor infants and identify potential growth and development problems earlier. As this program grows, HHI hopes to continue to give these new families successful and healthy beginnings.
