As the Coordinator of Patient and Family Education, my role is to coordinate the educational activities for the Division of Oncology. I collaborate with all disciplines to create educational materials and programs that support patients and families during their cancer journey. In order for a parent to feel empowered to care for their child, having the right information at the right time is essential. My role is to ensure that this information is readily available and easily understood. I am passionate about providing these services to our patients and their families in a consistent, yet customizable way.
Over the 19 years that I have worked in pediatric oncology, I have been most impressed by the resiliency of the children who come to our facility. I have learned many life lessons from some very young “teachers.”
I have authored /co-authored several posters that focus on the educational needs of nurses and the evaluation of educational programs. I am especially interested in exploring how people learn best and methods of evaluating the effectiveness of teaching. My research interests are directed towards integrative medicine, particularly Reiki.
