Impedance/pH Probe

An impedance/pH probe measures acid and non-acid reflux in your child's esophagus.

For the impedance/pH probe test, a thin tube with special sensors is inserted into your child’s nose and advanced into the esophagus. Gastroenterologists assess the presence of gastro esophageal reflux in your child by measuring if food or liquid is coming from the stomach back up into the esophagus.

You will be asked to keep a diary during your child’s study. It is important to keep a patient diary for two reasons: to obtain critical information about your child’s symptoms and timing of symptoms, record meals and medications, and to ensure the probe’s function.

This test is only available at CHOP’s Main Campus.
