Gil Wernovsky, MD: It’s really overwhelming, actually, when you see a baby who came in dreadfully ill, with very scared parents, come back three years later and kick you in the shin like a normal three year old. You know, they’re—that is really the best part of what we do.
Elizabeth Proctor, Mother: We’re looking at them 14 months later, and they’re doing everything that any other child would be doing at their age.
Sarah Tabbut, MD: I can’t think of a better job.
Victoria Vetter, MD: It’s a very exciting field.
Bernard Clark, MD: It’s a tremendously exciting and rewarding experience.
Susan Nicolson, MD: What myself and my colleagues are able to do really makes the lives of children better.
Bernard Clark, MD: What you’re trying to do is to guarantee them a normal life.
Jack Rychik, MD: And that is in essence to alter the future.
Thomas Spray, MD: You’re doing reconstructive work where the outcome is so important for the overall life of the child.
Elizabeth Proctor: And they do it all with such compassion, and such sympathy, and such empathy, such confidence, and they’re excellent—excellent.
Music: Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow but if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I'll be you're friend I'll help you carry on
For it won’t be long till I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on.
