Support Services and Resources
Whether you are visiting The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for a single outpatient appointment, a day in the Hospital or an extended inpatient stay, you have access to support services designed especially for you and your family. We understand that exceptional medical care is only one piece of the picture, and that truly comprehensive care for your child and family means providing you with the resources and support you need, every step of the way.
Support Services
We offer a variety of services to help meet your needs as you navigate through your child's healthcare journey.
Social Work
The staff in the department of Social Work and Family Services are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to help families solve problems and cope with the challenges of caring for a sick child. Trained in child and family development, counseling, mental health and public advocacy, they often act as the link between families and medical staff. More.
Language Services
We offer a variety of language services to meet the needs of all our patients and their families. Services include language interpretation, sign language interpretation, TDD/TTY, and access to a Telephone Language Line from any CHOP phone. More.
Child Life
The staff of the Child Life, Education and Creative Arts Therapy Department help children, teens and family members cope with the healthcare experience through developmentally appropriate activities for children, education about and preparation for medical procedures and through emotional support. Chaplaincy
The Chaplaincy program provides professional pastoral care to children and their families as they cope with their hospital experience. Chaplaincy staff are sensitive to the varied expressions of faith and are dedicated to providing support 24 hours a day. More.
Family Cosultants
Family Consultants are parents of children who have been cared for at CHOP. They are employed by the Hospital to work directly with families to assist them in navigating the healthcare experience. They bring a unique understanding and compassion when addressing families' needs as they have "walked in their shoes". Family Consultants are available at the Main Hospital only.
Ethics Committee
Decisions involving personal or spiritual beliefs can become ethical dilemmas. When you and your child's healthcare team must make these difficult treatment decisions, know that the Ethics Committee staff may be able to help. Support Groups
CHOP is pleased to host a wide range of family support groups. These groups welcome new families and are available to provide comfort and solace to parents and others who are coping with a child's chronic medical condtion, illness or injury. More.
Home Care
The Home Care Service department provides family-centered care in the home when hospitalization is not necessary and support the care of children in the outpatient setting. Our staff is a team of pediatric nurses, doctors, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers, dieticians and delivery technicians, all of whom are easily accessible and who are supported by our office staff. Bereavement
We offer many forms of support to help families rebuild their lives after the death of a child. We hold support groups, workshops and services for parents and siblings who are grieving. More.
Resources
These resources are available to you during your visit to Children's Hospital. The Welcome Centers, Connelly Center and Little Rock Room are all located at Children's Hospital's Main Building.
Welcome Centers
There are two Welcome Centers where you can find helpful information as you arrive at Children's Hospital. The ADA CARing for Kids Foundation Welcome Center is located on the second floor of the Wood Building. The Asplundh Foundation Inpatient Welcome Center is located on the first floor of the Main Building. Both offer comfortable seating, computer access and information about resources for patients and families.
The Connelly Resource Center for Families
The Connelly Resource Center for Families is a quiet place to take a break; surf the Internet; attend a coffee hour or select children's books and videos from the Family Library. A Family Learning Center in the Connelly Center offers classes to help families learn new skills needed to care for their children in the Hospital or at home. More.

The Little Rock Resource Room offers a broad range of services to support parents and families of children with disabilities. More.

CHOP Family News is a quarterly newsletter that highlights the wide array of services available to families. Issues can be found online, or at the Main Hospital in the Welcome Centers and the Connelly Center. More.
CarePages
CarePages are free, personalized Web pages you can create to help stay in touch with family members and friends during your child's hospitalization. Your CarePges site is secure, and the information is entered by you, not the Hospital or your child's caregivers. More.
