Social Work

The department of Social Work and Family Services at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is made up of a variety of professionals and programs dedicated to supporting you and your family as you make important decisions about your child's care. These services are designed to address the social, psychological and spiritual needs you may have during the course of your child's healthcare experience. Services and programs are available during an inpatient hospitalization, when you're visiting an outpatient office or clinic, and even after your child returns home.

Social Workers

Our network of dedicated professional social workers are available to consult with and counsel you and your family about healthcare planning and decision-making. Trained to support you as you cope with your child's illness, they can also assist you as you navigate through hospital and insurance systems. Assistance is also provided for school, employment and financial issues and in referrals to community-based and support agencies.

Chaplains

Professionally trained hospital chaplains are available around the clock to address your religious and spiritual needs.They work with community clergy and representatives of many religious organizations to provide for a family's preferences in religious rituals and spiritual activities. Everstar Bereavement program

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia offers a comprehensive bereavement program to grieving families. The Evenstar Bereavement Program's many services, events and informational resources are designed to offer support, hope and guidance to families as they grieve. Family Consultants

Family Consultants are parents of children who have been cared for at CHOP. They are employed by the Hospital to work directly with families to assist them in navigating the healthcare experience. They bring a unique understanding and compassion when addressing families' needs as they have often been in the same situations themselves. In addition to family support, consultants also serve and represent family interests on a wide range of Hospital committees and planning initiatives.

Family Resource Coordinators

Family resource coordinators maintain current information about resources available to families who are receiving care at CHOP. They also help educate families about the services provided by the Hospital that are designed for their comfort and convenience. They staff the Welcome Centers, The Connelly Resource Center for Families and the family lounges in the intensive care units.
