We offer a broad range of food services to meet your every need during your stay at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. From in-room service to snacks in our convenience store, to kosher meals and special requests, we'll take care of the nutrition so you can focus on your child.
Our patient and family meal program is called Room Service because, just like a hotel, we offer you the ability to choose what you want, when you want it.
Your child's doctor will order the appropriate diet for your child, based on his/her condition, age and medical needs. You will receive a Room Service packet upon admission with menus and additional information. Room Service is available between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Simply call the number on your menu to place your order, and within 45 minutes, your food will be at your bedside, made to order! Nothing is off limits, so if you want breakfast for dinner, we can do that. Family members can also call in an order from home, if the child isn't old enough to do it him/herself.
Guests and parents can also order from the Room Service menu. There is a $5.00 charge for any meal which you can provide to the Host/Hostess upon delivery.
If you have a special request for a food item, we'll try our best to accommodate it. Contact the kitchen from your child's hospital phone to discuss.
A menu of available frozen kosher foods is available upon request. There is also a cupboard of non-perishable kosher foods in The Connelly Resource Center for Families. Information on local kosher restaurants, some of which deliver, is also available in the Connelly Center.
After 8 p.m., bagged meals containing a sandwich, snack and juice are available in the pantry refrigerator on your unit.
Breastfeeding is encouraged at Children's Hospital. If you are unable to nurse your child at any time during your Hospital stay, breast pumps are available on patient care units and in certain lactation rooms. Ask your child's nurse for a pump kit and for information about using an electric pump. Pump rentals are also available for home use. For more information, you can arrange to speak with one of our lactation consultants.
If your child receives formula, we will provide it during your Hospital stay.
The kitchens on most units have refrigerators for food storage. All foods must be labeled with a name, room number and date.
The Hospital has 2 cafeterias, one located on the first floor of the Main Building and the other on the first floor of the Abramson Research Building. With your doctor's permission, your child may dine in the cafeteria instead of his or her room. You will receive a meal voucher to pay for your child's meal.
Vending machines are located in both cafeterias and near the elevators on the sixth and eighth floors of the Main Building.
The C3 convenience store is located on the first floor of the Wood Building. It's hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can find beverages, snacks and specialty items here.
