Guide to Your Child's Surgery

We're honored that you've chosen The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for your child's surgery. We understand that a child's operation is a stressful experience for the entire family, so we want you to know that your child is in good hands.

Our staff are experts in caring for children and their families. Our team will provide your child's care and do everything possible to make his experience safe, convenient and comfortable.

Here, we've gathered information about what you and your child can expect when she has surgery at Children's Hospital. We hope it will help your family as your child goes through the surgical process. If you have questions we haven't answered here, please feel free to call us at 267-425-4300.

You can also download our booklet "Having Surgery at Children's Hospital - Main Campus." This booklet includes much of the information found on this site, and will help you prepare yourself and your child for your surgical experience at the Main Hospital.

Where will your child have surgery?

For a growing number of pediatric surgical procedures, families can access the services of renowned Children's Hospital surgeons without a trip to the city. At our suburban Ambulatory Surgery Centers, all procedures are attended by full surgical teams, including pediatric anesthesiologists. Staff at these ambulatory sites are all CHOP employees and have the same training as staff at the Main campus.

Surgical services are available at the following Specialty Care Centers: Bucks County (PA), Exton (PA) and Voorhees (NJ).

Our new video, Easy Does It, details one child's experience at our Voorhees, NJ, surgery center. To learn more about having surgery at one of our suburban Ambulatory Surgery Centers, watch the video and download our booklet, "Having Surgery - Children's Hospital Ambulatory Center."
