Why choose the Advanced Personalized Therapeutics and Precision Surgery (ATPTS) Program
At Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), we know that seeking care for your child with cancer can be overwhelming. When making decisions about your child’s treatment and care team, consider the following:
The ATPTS Program is “next-level” precision medicine. We tailor medical treatment to the specific vulnerabilities in your child’s tumor, such as genes or proteins. We are introducing a new method of profiling tumors by growing cells in the lab and testing drugs directly on them. Our work is focused on not only finding new treatments but making them safer, with fewer side effects.
Unsurpassed expertise. Our team members have profiled more than 5,000 pediatric cancers from both CHOP and other institutions. Because of this comprehensive profiling, more children are receiving precision medicine care:
- More than 5 new precision therapies have received FDA approval for children with key contributions from CHOP.
- Our trials have shown that some patients can avoid traditional chemotherapy and be successfully treated with oral targeted therapies.
- We have multiple clinical trials developed at CHOP studying novel precision therapies. Our patients have access to many other precision medicine trials being conducted at CHOP. See the current list of precision medicine trials for pediatric cancers that are open at CHOP.
- Family-centered care and support services. Your child will have access to the Cancer Center’s extensive range of programs, including psychosocial services, Integrative Oncology, the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program, our integrated rehabilitation facility and more.
Cutting-edge research leading to superior care. We seek to identify new targets for cell therapy in pediatric cancers. Currently, only about 12% of pediatric cancer patients receive precision treatment recommendations based on their genetic targets. We believe we can do better: We plan to increase this number to more than 50% of patients.
Top ranked. Our Cancer Center is consistently ranked among the best pediatric oncology programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals.
