Coronavirus Updates for Dermatology Patients and Families

Updated July 14

As we navigate this challenging, stressful time together, please know that CHOP Dermatology is here for you. There are many precautions we are taking to support broader public health efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). We are monitoring the situation closely and adapting our policies as needed to ensure the safety of our patients, families and staff.

We want to reassure you that we are confident that we can safely provide the care your child needs.

We will be updating our families regularly with key information. Read below for more details about the precautions in place to keep you, your children and our staff safe, and what to expect when you come back to see us.

Outpatient/clinic visits

After much preparation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person visits were carefully resumed. Here’s what you can expect when you come back to see us.

If we need to cancel or reschedule your upcoming appointment, we will contact you directly to discuss options. Many appointments can be converted to a telehealth visit. Read below for more details on these new telehealth options available to families.

Dermatology telehealth options

The Section of Dermatology continues to use telehealth to continue providing care at this time when it is clinically safe and appropriate to do so. We encourage you to sign in to your MyCHOP account to ensure you can successfully access your account. If you have questions, or need to sign up for MyCHOP, please call us.

Please check with your health plan to confirm that your insurance covers video visits with your CHOP providers.

MyDerm E-visits

If you are a follow-up patient to dermatology OR you are a new patient with a CHOP primary care provider, you may use the convenient MyDerm feature in your MyCHOP app to submit photos for review by one of our attending dermatologists. Please visit the MyDerm website for more information. Please note that if you have a video visit scheduled, we’ll send you separate instructions for how to upload photos for that visit.

Video visits

We are also offering video visits for some cases. If you are interested in scheduling a video visit, please send a message requesting a video visit through your MyCHOP account, or call our office at 215-590-2169 and our staff will assist you with setting up your visit.

Find instructions for getting set up for video visits with a CHOP dermatology provider. Our staff will contact you with instructions on how to upload photos prior to your video visit. Please note video visits are separate from MyDerm, so there will be unique instructions for sending photos.

Additional information during the COVID-19 pandemic

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you or your child develops a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness, contact your medical provider immediately. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your/your child’s symptoms. They will coordinate safe testing and treatment and get you the care you need.
