This study aims to understand the needs of pediatric patients and families receiving care at CHOP and broadly Pennsylvania. We will determine the needs and barriers of American Indian / Alaska Native (AI/AN) pediatric patients by facilitating semi-structured interviews with parents and/or guardians of children and adolescents who self-identify as AI/AN. We aim to also understand the importance of cultural safe care in pediatric healthcare for AI/AN patients in the form of patient-provider communication. We will facilitate semi-structured interviews with CHOP primary care providers who have worked or are currently working with patients who self-identify as AI/AN. We aim to enroll 10 CHOP primary care providers and 10 parents or guardians of self-identifying AI/AN pediatric patients. The data collected will inform future research questions and address areas of improvement for trainee-provider cultural safety education.
