Perianal IBD Program

The Perianal IBD Program at CHOP is a first-of-its-kind program dedicated to caring for children with perianal inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our team of specialists includes gastroenterologists, surgeons, dietitians, wound care experts, physical therapists, nurses and psychologists. Together, our team works to create personalized treatment plans to help each child feel better and find new and improved ways to treat perianal IBD.
The Perianal IBD Program is part of the two nationally renowned centers at CHOP – the Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the Center for Microbial Medicine. The Center for Microbial Medicine is the U.S.’s leading center focused on the microbiome – tiny organisms that live inside and on the body – and how it affects diseases and health in children.
How we serve you
We offer a variety of specialized programs and clinical services to children with perianal IBD and their families.
Conditions we treat
Our program is dedicated solely to treating children with perianal IBD, which can cause pain, swelling, bleeding or blockages near or in the anus.

Meet your team
Gastroenterologists who specialize in taking care of children with perianal IBD will assess and treat your child – from their initial diagnosis through long-term care. Surgeons, dietitians, wound care experts, physical therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists and other experts at CHOP are also important members of your child’s care team.

Our location
Patients of the Perianal IBD Program will be assessed and treated at the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, on the Raymond G. Perelman Campus of CHOP’s Philadelphia campus.
Our research
The causes of perianal IBD are still largely unknown, but current research indicates that genetics and environmental factors may play a role and affect symptom severity.
