Maria Rodriguez, MSW, LSW, is a social worker in the Division of Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Prior to joining the Neurology team, she worked with CHOP’s Department of Patient and Family Services as a social work floater, where she felt privileged to work with a multitude of disciplines, services and patient families.

Maria was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and in 2005 graduated from CUNY Lehman College with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She spent two years working with the homeless population, providing case management services to the underserved communities in New York City, before obtaining her master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania in 2007.

She entered her first medical social work position in the Bronx, NY, a year after graduating and never looked back. It was there that she realized she had found her niche, working with children who were medically fragile and had complex medical issues.

In 2011, she relocated with her family to central Florida and worked on a level one trauma intensive care unit at a children’s hospital, often moonlighting the emergency department and NICU on weekends. In 2014, looking to expand her horizons and obtain further experience working in a world class institution, she joined CHOP.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with wonderful team members and be part of the amazing service we provide to patients and their families,” says Maria. “I look forward to working with and learning from all of our neurology families!”
