Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) invites you to join us for an in-person lecture by our 2026 CHOP Urology Visiting Professor, Luis H. Braga, MD. Dr. Braga travels to Philadelphia from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada to be our 34th Visiting Professor. This CME/CE event is hosted by the Division of Urology at CHOP and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Braga received his undergraduate degree, a Masters, MD and PhD degrees in Health Sciences in Brazil, where he also completed a residency in general surgery and pediatric surgery. He then completed two separate Pediatric Urology Fellowships at prestigious institutions, first under Professors Paul Mitrofanoff and Pierre Mouriquand in France and then a 3-year clinical and research position at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.  He started as faculty in the Division of Pediatric Urology at McMaster University in 2008.  He completed a Masters in Health Research Methodology in 2010. He is a full professor in the Department of Surgery and holds additional appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact (HEI). He is the Research Director of the Urology Residency Program and the Director of the McMaster Pediatric Surgery Research Collaborative.

Dr. Braga serves as an editor for the Journal of Pediatric Urology and an assistant editor for the Journal of Urology and Frontiers in Pediatrics. He was the Secretary and Treasurer and is subsequently now President of the Pediatric Urologists of Canada. Dr. Braga is an executive committee member of the Society for Fetal Urology and is currently Secretary of the Hypospadias International Society. Dr. Braga has been awarded over a million dollars in grant funding towards his broad-reaching research endeavors, including the refinement of antibiotic prophylaxis for antenatal hydronephrosis, orchiopexy approach and management of the neurogenic bladder.

We look forward to hearing Dr. Braga’s thoughts in his two lectures, the first focusing on his evolution in managing hypospadias, a topic in which he has published extensively, ultimately shifting the paradigm of how we treat these patients. His second lecture, focused on the use of antibiotics in antenatal hydronephrosis and indications for pyeloplasty, will undoubtedly stimulate conversation on a controversial topic.

This activity has been designed for academic faculty, hospital medical staff, community physicians, residents, fellows and nurses.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the participants should be able to:

• Understand risk factors for hypospadias as well as why not all distal hypospadias complications are the same.
• Understand strategies to prevent graft contraction in proximal hypospadias and to manage when they occur.
• Objectively stratify hydronephrosis severity through an ultrasound-based scoring system.
• Be able to employ treatment strategies and surgical tips to achieve successful pyeloplasty in infants.
