Plate with fettuccini alfredo CHOPed: Mastering the Renal Diet is a free summer cooking program where adolescents learn to cook delicious meals using kidney-friendly recipes developed by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

We understand that having to follow a special diet can be difficult for kids with kidney disease (and when something is hard to do, kids don't always want to do it). The goal is to help kids learn fun new ways to follow the renal diet by cooking delicious, renal-friendly meals themselves!

Chefs cooking in the kitchen The Division of Nephrology team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia chose to address the issue of healthy eating by partnering with The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College to offer this free one-week summer cooking course to any patient between the ages of 10 and 19 with kidney disease. The program focuses on cooking kidney-friendly meals under the guidance of the renal diet. All campers will cook their own renal-friendly meals while guided by the chefs of the Restaurant School. Campers will cook foods in popular culinary themes such as Italian, Asian, Mexican, American, BBQ and desserts, as well as engage in various activities to increase awareness of healthy eating. All campers will receive their own chef hat, apron, renal diet cookbook, certificate of camp completion, and many promotional items provided by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College and the National Kidney Foundation.

The camp is proudly sponsored by donor support, with additional support from the National Kidney Foundation.
