Food Comes from the Earth

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has teamed up with Vetri Community Partnership for a series of plant-based, hands-on cooking workshops incorporating recipes free of chemicals, preservatives and emulsifiers. The workshop series, Food Comes From the Earth, will increase practical cooking skills, encourage cooking at home, and stimulate curiosity about fresh foods.

Patients (fourth grade and up) and their caregivers are invited to join these fun, hands-on classes, to learn basic culinary skills and how to prepare food that is nutritious, delicious and affordable. All workshops will be held at CHOP's Specialty Care and Surgery Center, Voorhees, NJ, 5:30-7:30 p.m. You can RSVP for one class or all classes.

  • Workshop 1: Tuesday, Aug. 28, Start the Day with Whole Foods: On-the-go Breakfasts that Keep You Fuller for Longer
  • Workshop 2: Tuesday, Sept. 11, Raw, Roast, Saute and Steam: Expand your Culinary Confidence by Exploring These Techniques
  • Workshop 3: Tuesday, Sept. 25, Cooking with the Season: Turning Fresh Produce Into Staple Weekly Meals
  • Workshop 4: Tuesday, Oct. 9, Navigating Convenience Foods: Canned, Frozen or Fresh; Learn How to Supplement Meals with a Vegetable at Any Time of Day
  • Workshop 5: Tuesday, Oct. 23, Building Flavor: Starting from Scratch and Identifying Flavor Profiles
