Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia Simulation

Date:
Apr 22, 2023 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (ET)

Overview

This course is designed to recreate realistic and challenging cases, such as insufficient oxygen levels in the blood, difficult airway management, emergency blood pressure issues or cardiac events. To improve clinical practice and patient outcomes, the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia follows the guidelines from the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and other related associations on patient safety. Using these guidelines, physicians are educated through didactic lectures and advanced simulation scenarios to share advances in pediatric anesthesia and critical care medicine practice and address safety issues identified in the department and hospital. This live, instructor-led, advanced simulation course will provide a safe environment to learn about new techniques or drugs and offer participants experience in crisis management, patient safety and professional teamwork that can be difficult to teach in the active operating room arena.

Objectives

  1. Practice the management for a patient with a perioperative crisis event in the operating room or during recovery from surgery.
  2. Use the principles of Crisis Resource Management in managing a perioperative anesthesia related crisis scenario.
  3. Discuss strategies to translate these Crisis management strategies into their own work environment.
