Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe an approach to the resuscitation of a child in cardiopulmonary arrest based on the most recent PALS guidelines
  2. Discuss a diagnostic approach and appropriate treatment of children who present with suspected appendicitis
  3. Summarize recent data concerning the clinical approach to febrile young infants
  4. Outline a diagnostic and therapeutic approach to a infant or child or who presents with vomiting
  5. Describe evidence-based guidelines for the identification and treatment of sepsis in children
  6. Discuss the role cognitive errors play in poor outcomes in the Emergency Department and ways to prevent them
  7. Summarize recent data on steroids, albuterol, levalbuterol, ipratropium bromide and magnesium sulfate in the treatment of acute asthma in childhood
