IBD patient Lacey and her mom On Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, patients of the Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and their families attended the annual IBD Education Day. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year marked the first completely virtual IBD Education Day.

A panel of national leaders in IBD care provided attendees with information on topics including diet and nutrition, emotional management, as well as potential future therapies and treatments. Clinicians and health experts from CHOP shared insight into some of the groundbreaking advancements patients can anticipate in the coming years for patients with IBD, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Following the presentations, attendees heard updates from the IBD Family Research Council, a  dedicated group of volunteers who raise funds each year for research at the Center for IBD by hosting the annual Walk for Hope. This year’s event will be a weeklong virtual challenge April 19-25.

The Vetri Community Partnership also held a cooking demonstration for patients and families.

Despite being fully virtual, this year’s event provided patients and families with expert information on IBD education. Attendees were also able to connect with fellow patients and guardians  to discuss openly how they cope with the disease – and the unique challenges the past year and COVID-19 provided.

Please join us next year, 2/27/2022 for the 31st annual Inflammatory Bowel Disease Education Day.
