Middleman Family Pavilion: Our Journey, Our Vision
The sustained high demand for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) inpatient services highlighted the need for a second inpatient location. This expansion would both preserve CHOP’s Philadelphia Campus resources for the most complex patients and bring high-quality care closer to families in Pennsylvania’s western suburbs and beyond.
In 2018, the Middleman Family Pavilion at CHOP, King of Prussia, was board-approved, marking a significant milestone in CHOP’s history. This second location opened in 2022, adding inpatient care and the region’s only dedicated pediatric emergency services to the existing Specialty Care and Urgent Care Centers on CHOP’s King of Prussia Campus. Today, the inpatient and specialty care teams continue to work across the campus to support continuity of care and a positive experience for patients and families.
Originally opened with an Emergency Department (ED), Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg), and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) services, the Middleman Family Pavilion has rapidly grown to meet the evolving needs of patients and families. The facility now offers a broad range of specialized services, including an expanded 24/7 ED, an adolescent malnutrition unit, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). With more than half of its beds now critical care-capable, the Middleman Family Pavilion ensures families across the region have access to the best resources available – when and where they need them.
Since opening, the Middleman Family Pavilion has rapidly exceeded expectations, with over 20,000 inpatient admissions, 18,000 surgeries and more than 132,000 visits to our Emergency Department (ED). CHOP continues to evolve and expand the campus to meet the the increasing demand for care from the families who trust us.
The Middleman Family Pavilion has a growing team of highly skilled and specialized medical professionals with extensive knowledge and experience in their fields. We regularly partner with providers from the Philadelphia Campus to meet patient needs, with several providers working at both hospital locations.
We are continually expanding our specialized services to ensure patients have access to comprehensive care for the routine and the rare within our facility, close to home.
