Last Sunday, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) 24th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Fun Day took place benefiting the hospital’s Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) Program, which supports healthier futures for patients and helps to improve the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. For the past two decades, the event has generated $5 million and this year, a record-breaking amount of $416,000 (and counting!) was raised.
More than 3,000 participants comprising of 150+ teams, including individuals with Down syndrome, their families and community supporters, as well as our patient champions, participated in the event, raising funds for individualized care, education and research that make it possible for individuals with Down syndrome to experience the joys of childhood and flourish in adulthood.
As the main fundraising event for the Trisomy 21 Program at CHOP, which serves more than 2,500 families, the Buddy Walk & Family Fun Day, established in 2002, raises crucial funds to support the program year-round, promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Trisomy 21, and celebrates children and adults with Down syndrome and their families. The event also supports the National Down Syndrome Society.
