On Sunday, April 26, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) hosted its inaugural I Heart CHOP Run, Walk & Virtual Challenge, presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies. The event was a 5K Run and 3K Family Fun Walk at FDR Park, and, for those who opted to participate remotely, I Heart CHOP continued throughout May with a month-long virtual activity challenge.
More than 465 teams comprised of over 7,500 attendees came together to raise $1.7M+, helping power critical programs, propel innovative research and provide compassionate care to CHOP patients. Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles running back and official champion of I Heart CHOP, attended alongside CHOP supporters, families and friends who raised awareness and funds for more than 100 different areas of the hospital. Others supported CHOP’s Children’s Fund, powering the people, places and programs with the greatest need.
Funds raised from the event will support:
- World-class pediatric care: CHOP is one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, providing comprehensive, family-centered care to hundreds of thousands of patients each year.
- Breakthrough research & innovation: CHOP is a global leader in pediatric research, driving discoveries that transform how childhood diseases are diagnosed and treated worldwide.
- Training the next generation: CHOP is a top destination for pediatric medical education, preparing future doctors, nurses, and specialists to deliver exceptional care for children everywhere.
- Help for every patient and family: Funds raised help ensure CHOP can meet the greatest needs across the hospital, advancing care, research, and resources that improve outcomes for all children.
“From life-changing research to leading clinical care that impacts our communities, CHOP is committed to providing the best for children in our backyard and around the world,” said Monica Taylor Lotty, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer at CHOP. “The I Heart CHOP event gave people the opportunity to donate to the programs most meaningful to them. It was amazing to see the community rally together, showing their commitment to bright futures for all kids.”
