January 24, 2011 — The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Virtua, South Jersey’s largest healthcare provider, announced today that they have developed a partnership that will provide pediatric services at Virtua’s facilities in Mount Holly and Voorhees, NJ. As part of the partnership, CHOP-employed physicians will provide care in Virtua’s inpatient pediatric units and its pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) as well as providing pediatric emergency care in its emergency departments. CHOP physicians will begin providing services at Virtua on Feb. 1, 2011.

“This is a truly exciting collaboration as we see great synergy and alignment in our mutual commitment to quality and service excellence,” said Steven M. Altschuler, MD, chief executive officer of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “CHOP is recognized nationally as the premier children’s hospital and Virtua provides a launching pad for children with almost 8,000 births a year. CHOP brings added specialties to an already well-established pediatric program at Virtua. This partnership adds a rich, new dimension to pediatric care in South Jersey.”

“Virtua’s partnership with CHOP,” says Richard P. Miller, CEO of Virtua, “enhances Virtua’s well respected pediatrics program with the medical expertise of the nation’s number one children’s hospital. The result for parents will be easy access to a premier program that provides true academic-level care that cannot be found elsewhere in South Jersey.”

In addition to providing services at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, the CHOP-VIRTUA program will deliver care at Virtua’s newest hospital in Voorhees beginning in the Spring of 2011. The hospital will have a dedicated Women’s and Children’s Pavilion that will include a state-of-the-art inpatient pediatric unit, pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric emergency department, pediatric and teen play rooms, pediatric garden and play area, and a family lounge.

Coming in 2012 will be an ambulatory care center adjacent to the hospital that will include a pediatric specialty center housing CHOP physician offices.
