In fact, the United States is experiencing a dire shortage of African American blood donors. Dr. Kim Smith-Whitley, director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, discussed the importance of blood donations, and what she and her team are personally doing to ensure patients within our Sickle Cell Center stay safe.
