On March 21, 2016, CHOP Poison Control Center Medical Director, Kevin Osterhoudt, MD, and CHOP PolicyLab Senior Psychologist, Marsha Gerdes, PhD, testified before the Philadelphia City Council Joint Committees on Children and Youth and Public Health and Human Services on a resolution regarding best practices followed by the Philadelphia Water Department as well as additional measures to prevent lead exposure due to household water service lines.

They spoke about the significant health effects lead exposure can have on children, what more can be done to prevent exposure, and about treatment options.

Dr. Osterhoudt explained that household lead paint exposure is a more significant concern in Philadelphia than exposure via water.
