May 24, 2011 — The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has tied for the number one ranking on U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals. Ranking in the top four in all 10 specialties, CHOP is the only pediatric hospital in the Delaware Valley region named to the prestigious Honor Roll.

Specialty rankings

CHOP ranked first in Neonatology, Pulmonology, and Diabetes and Endocrinology; second in Cancer, Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology; third in Gastroenterology, and fourth in Nephrology.

Survey methodology

The survey methodology weighed a blend of reputation, outcomes and care-related measures such as nursing care, infection prevention, patient volumes and other factors.

Each hospital received a “U.S. News Score” for each of the 10 specialties ranked. Eleven hospitals were named to this year’s Honor Roll.

“Families from across the region and around the world seek care at Children’s Hospital and it is our mission to provide the safest environment and premiere clinical expertise in the most convenient location,” said Steven M.
