Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is pleased to announce two key faculty appointments for new roles building upon the momentum established by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Vaidehi Jobanputra, PhD, FACMG, MS, has joined the institution as the new Chief of the Division of Genomic Diagnostics, and Ila Singh, MD, PhD, will serve as the inaugural Vice Chair of Artificial Intelligence.

Dr. Jobanputra is a national leader in translating whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing into routine clinical use, most recently serving as Steering Committee Chair of the Medical Genome Initiative, a multi-institutional effort to establish best practices for genome sequencing in the diagnosis of rare diseases. In her new role, she will lead CHOP's Division of Genomic Diagnostics, overseeing clinical cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and genome-scale testing programs that support diagnosis and treatment for children with rare and complex genetic conditions.

Dr. Singh is a physician-scientist and laboratory leader who previously served as Chief of Laboratory Medicine and Chief of Pathology Informatics at Texas Children’s Hospital and as Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. She leads TRUU-Lab, a national initiative involving federal agencies, professional societies, electronic health record companies, health systems, laboratories, and industry to make laboratory test names clearer and more standardized. At CHOP, she will shape the department’s approach to AI thoughtfully and collaboratively - beginning with listening, strengthening AI literacy, and identifying problems that matter to patients, families, clinicians, and staff. Her goal is to build practical, carefully validated, human-centered AI solutions in pathology that can ultimately scale across CHOP.

“Drs. Jobanputra and Singh are two of the most accomplished leaders in their respective fields, taking complex health data and making it work better for patients and families,” said Robert Doms, MD, PhD, Pathologist-in-Chief for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “Their experience will help usher in the next chapter of genomic diagnostics at CHOP and responsibly harness the potential of AI, respectively, ultimately helping to deliver better care to the children and families we serve.”
