This October, we were thrilled to welcome more than 150 attendees to Philadelphia for the 2025 Congenital Hyperinsulinism (HI) Family Conference, hosted by the Congenital Hyperinsulinism Center here at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in partnership with Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI).
Families, patients, clinicians, researchers and industry partners from around the world came together for a weekend of learning, connection and hope. From the very first session, the energy in the room reflected what makes this community so special — our shared commitment to understanding HI and supporting one another through every step of the journey.
Throughout the weekend, families heard from CHOP’s HI specialists, CHI leaders, and world-renowned physicians and researchers. Sessions explored the history of HI, advances in diagnosis and treatment, surgical innovations, and the latest research and promising new therapies on the horizon. Industry partners also joined to share updates on ongoing development for medicines aimed at improving outcomes for children with HI.
One of the most meaningful parts of the weekend was the chance for families to connect in small breakout groups, where parents, caregivers and patients of all ages shared experiences, insights and encouragement. While parents attended talks, children enjoyed supervised activities, including games, crafts and even a fun experiment to extract DNA from strawberries!
The conference reminded us how powerful it is when families, clinicians and researchers unite with a shared purpose: to make life better for children with HI.
