News Hour Toronto Features Fetal Surgery for Spina Bifida

Emma was diagnosed with spina bifida, a birth defect in which an area of the spinal column doesn’t form properly, before she was born.

Her mother traveled from her home in Ontario to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment, one of only a handful of centers that can fix this birth defect in utero. The prenatal surgery is not available in Canada.
