Electronic Patient Discharge Notifications Now Available

CHOP is now able to send discharge notifications electronically to patients’ primary care providers. These electronic “continuity of care documents,” or CCDs, will contain all the information you already receive from CHOP as well as other Meaningful Use mandated items. Prepare for the ICD-10 Transition: Free Webinar Sept. 2

On Oct. 1, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, health insurers, providers and all HIPAA-covered entities will be making the transition from the ICD-9 diagnosis code set to ICD-10. New Jersey Scholastic Student-Athlete Safety Act: Important Information for Providers

Lipid Heart Clinic Now Seeing Patients in NJ

The Lipid Heart Clinic evaluates and treats children and adolescents who have high levels of lipids in their blood. Starting Aug. 19, patients have the option of being seen at CHOP’s Specialty Care Network location at Virtua in Voorhees, NJ. Shirley Huang, MD, will have clinic hours twice a month. Preventing Antibiotic Resistance and the Spread of Superbugs

According to estimates from the CDC, more than half of the antibiotics used in the U.S. are prescribed unnecessarily or used improperly. In an effort to help battle superbugs in outpatient settings, CHOP has implemented a unique outpatient antimicrobial stewardship program. The goal of the initiative is to encourage appropriate use of antimicrobials and reliance on more narrow-spectrum options. Learn more »

CHOP Oncologist Appointed to National Cancer Advisory Board

Peter C. Adamson, MD Peter C. Adamson, MD, was appointed by President Obama to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB). He is currently the only pediatric oncologist to serve on the NCAB. In this role he will work to ensure the voices of the pediatric cancer community are heard by decision makers in the federal government. Read more »

Alexandre Arkader, MD Alexandre Arkader, MD, is an attending surgeon in the Division of Orthopedics and Division of Oncology, specializing in sarcomas. He is available to see patients at CHOP’s Main Campus and the Specialty Care Center at Virtua.

Division of ENT Welcomes New Pediatric Otolaryngologist

Adva Buzi, MD, is a board-certified ENT specialist focusing on general otolaryngology, pediatric sinus disease and disorders, and chronic middle ear disease. She is now available to see patients at New Jersey Specialty Care locations in Atlantic County (Mays Landing), Voorhees and Princeton at Plainsboro. Dr. Buzi will be available for Saturday appointments once a month.
