NEW: Noise-induced Hearing Loss Podcast

In 2011, 1 in 5 adolescents in the U.S. were reported to have permanent hearing loss attributed to noise exposure. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Audiologist Frank Wartinger, AuD, discusses the prevalence, risk factors, and prevention strategies for noise-induced hearing loss.

Managing Febrile Seizure without Neurological Disease

Our outpatient pathway for the child with febrile seizure without neurological disease outlines clinical assessment, concerning features to watch for, seizure classification, discharge criteria, and when to refer to the ED or Neurology.

Outpatient Appointments Available with Adolescent Specialty Practice

Physicians in our Adolescent Specialty Practice provide outpatient consultative care Monday through Friday at three convenient locations. Immediate appointments are available for help with issues related to chronic medical conditions, menstrual problems, ovarian cysts, eating and feeding disorders, gender identity and sexual development issues, mood disorders and much more. We also have a dedicated Adolescent Gynecology Program and provide contraceptive services, including long-acting reversible contraceptives. To make a referral, call 267-426-5980. Parking is free at each location.

Referring for Lymphedema Therapy Services

CHOP’s Center for Rehabilitation has three certified lymphedema therapists on staff offering complete decongestive therapy (CDT), including measurement and fitting of compression garments. These services are available at Main Campus and Specialty Care, Virtua. To refer a patient, enter orders for both PT and OT and ask the family to call 215-590-5819 to schedule an evaluation. Referral requests and any lymphedema-related questions can also be sent directly to PTOTlymphedema@email.chop.edu. Compression garment services are also available for other diagnoses.

Otolaryngology Welcomes New Attending Physician

Robert Carlos O’Reilly, MD, recently joined the Division of Otolaryngology. He will be providing care at Main Campus as well as our Brandywine Valley and Exton CHOP Care Network locations. Dr. O’Reilly’s clinical interests include vestibular and balance disorders, congenital hearing loss, auditory neuropathy, cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media.

New Video: Hyperhidrosis Surgery for Children

In this video, clinicians explain how surgery works to treat the underlying cause of excessive sweating, and how it can help patients who don’t have success with non-surgical treatment options. You’ll also meet several patients who suffered from hyperhidrosis and underwent surgery.
