Pet Therapy Program to Triple in Size

CHOP's Pet Therapy Program is expanding and getting a new name.

Children’s Hospital has plans to expand its pet therapy program from the current 24 dogs to 80, thanks to the ongoing generosity of donor and dog lover Gerald B. Shreiber. Over the next two years, the newly named Gerald B. Shreiber Pet Therapy Program will also:

  • Double the number of weekly pet therapy visits from one visit per unit to two
  • Expand pet therapy to additional units (from its current 13) throughout the Hospital and to CHOP Care Network locations beyond Main Campus
  • Hire a full-time coordinator, who will recruit, screen and train new therapy dog teams and spread awareness of the program
