Practical Neurology Interviews CHOP Doctor about Dietary Therapies for Epilepsy

Published on in CHOP in the Media

Christina Bergqvist, MD, sits down with host Michelle Dougherty, MD, from Practical Neurology® magazine to discuss the emerging role of dietary therapies for status epilepticus, a life-threatening condition in which the patient experiences multiple epileptic seizures in a row without full recovery of consciousness between them.

Dr. Bergqvist talks about how the central nervous system changes in status epilepticus, and how dietary therapies such as the ketogenic diet may help stop the process. Traditionally, dietary therapies have not been used in status epilepticus, but current research efforts are exploring if dietary therapies should be considered sooner in the treatment of status epilepticus.
