July 2, 2010 — June marked the second birthday of the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the world’s first birth facility exclusively for mothers carrying babies with known birth defects.
Mothers receiving care at CHOP’s Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment can deliver their babies in the high-amenity Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit, tended to by our highly specialized staff of obstetricians, fetal surgeons, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, cardiologists, advanced practice nurses, OB and neonatal nurses, genetic counselors and social workers.
In the past two years, more than 465 babies have been delivered with conditions ranging from congenital diaphragmatic hernia to spina bifida to congenital heart defects. Families from all 50 states and more than 47 countries have traveled to Children’s Hospital for expert prenatal care, delivery and postnatal care for their babies. The Center’s team is recognized worldwide for its skill, experience, compassion and excellent outcomes and has been delivering hope to families for nearly 15 years.
