Behavioral Health Integrated Program
The Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP), a consultation liaison service, provides behavioral health services to children who are hospitalized for medical illnesses. Clinicians are available for inpatient psychiatric and psychological consultation/evaluation and brief treatment. Referrals to this service come from the patient’s attending physician. Issues often addressed on our service include:
- Urgent assessment and intervention, and safety planning with mental health crises
- Evaluation, medication management and brief, evidence-based intervention for mental health needs
- Evaluation and intervention for eating disorders
- Intervention for behavioral or emotional concerns that interfere with medical treatment
- Assessment of organic mental health syndromes that result in alteration of mental status
- Evaluation and treatment of unexplained physical symptoms that may be a result of psychological processes
