Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program

If your child needs surgery of the face, jaw or mouth, the surgeons in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) have the expertise to provide comprehensive care. We treat the full range of conditions, from the common to the complex, including cysts (mucocele), tumors, lesions, wisdom teeth removal, exposure/brackets for impacted teeth, supernumerary/mesiodens (extra teeth), frenectomy to increase the tongue’s range of motion, gingivectomy for gum disease, implants, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, cleft lip/palate and more.

We are a multidisciplinary team within the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Oral Surgery, supported by top-ranked orthodontists and plastic surgeons. We understand the unique needs of children who are still growing and provide individualized care in a family-centered environment.

Psychosocial support

In addition to the physical aspects of treatment, the emotional, social and psychological well-being of children and their families are vital parts of the care we provide. Included on our team are a psychologist and social worker who have extensive experience addressing psychosocial concerns arising from conditions that involve the head and face.
