NRG Energy’s Support of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Cardiac Center Exceeds $4 Million Donation Milestone

NRG Energy, one of the nation’s leading electricity and natural gas suppliers, has surpassed $4 million in funding to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) from its charitable program, Choose to Give. The milestone was celebrated at the hospital with a check presentation which included leadership and staff from the Cardiac Center at CHOP.

CHOP has been a part of NRG’s Choose to Give program since 2016. To date, NRG has contributed more than $4.2 million through the program, funding more than 30 projects and research initiatives led by experts in CHOP’s Cardiac Center, one of the world's leading pediatric heart centers caring for children with acquired and congenital heart conditions. Some examples of supported programs include:

• Development of high-resolution 3D/VR modeling of valve pathology and virtual repairs: this new imaging technique improves surgical and interventional outcomes valve repair in single ventricle patients
• Establishment of a bereavement team: provides long term support for Cardiac Center parents and siblings along with delivering education on death and dying support to Center providers
• Establishment of a discharge optimization team: addressing the gap for complex patient care coordination, this effort supports the development of formal clinical assistance programming for Cardiac Center surgical patients to make the transition from hospital to home smoother and more efficient
• Development of simulation space: training area allows for educational simulation exercises adjacent to the inpatient units for nursing and faculty to hone their skills
