From caring for the Sea Garden to organizing our 9th annual patient prom, there’s always something going on at CHOP! Here’s a peek into our latest news and events.

Life at CHOP in Five Photos - Summer 2015

    Earlier this month, patients, staff and volunteers spent some time sprucing up the Sea Garden. They planted tomatoes, basil, peppers and flowers and even added a few palm trees. Here, Child Life’s Amy Moore waters the beloved scarecrow, whose outfit changes with the season.

    As part of the Daisy Days celebration in May, Lilly Pulitzer held a fashion show in CHOP's Colket Atrium with patients as models, along with special guest Julia Rae Schlucter, Miss Philadelphia. Schluchter has cystic fibrosis and was a long-time CHOP patient. She frequently returns to visit with patients and share her own experiences coping with illness.

    For the last two years, teams of CHOP facilitators have been working with children at Philadelphia’s Girard Elementary, taking a whole-school approach to bullying prevention. The program is called Preventing Aggression in Schools Everyday (PRAISE). They are making incredible progress, as this student’s artwork shows.

    CHOP celebrated the second anniversary and expansion of its partnership with The Lundy Law Library Express with a special book reading for the patients. "Now & Ben" author Gene Baretta was on hand to read from his book — and he brought along his pal Benjamin Franklin!

    The 9th annual patient prom at CHOP was held on May 13. Sponsored by the Joshua Kahan fund, the CHOP Prom allows patients and their family to get decked out in gowns and suits and enjoy dancing, food and activities inside the Hospital.
