The Garboses generously provided the lead gift to create the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit (SDU), the first comprehensive birth facility in the United States to be located in a freestanding pediatric hospital. The SDU, which opened in 2008, hosts women carrying babies with known birth defects. To date, more than 3,000 babies have been delivered there. It is a premiere example of innovation and family-centered care.

“When you give to CHOP, you are making an investment that will very likely have ripple effects,” says Lynne. “It may be that you funded seed research that leads to something bigger. It may be that you become involved in a clinical program that becomes more comprehensive down the line. There are no limits to what can be discovered and innovated.”
